The Salvation Army's 47th Annual 
Harvest Festival Auction

 

The Salvation Army's 47th annual Harvest Festival Auction Sale will begin at 6 p.m. Monday, September 24th, at the Memorial Park Clubhouse located on the Liberty Trail in Michigan City.

Doors will open and items will be available for viewing at 5 p.m. Refreshments also will be available in the lower level beginning at 5 p.m. and throughout the evening.

Auctioneers LaVerne Klemm and Brian Harting and their staff will donate their services, as they have done in previous years.

Captain Mark VanMeter, Salvation Army commanding officer, said the organization provides assistance for people, with a variety of needs, including rent, utilities, emergency lodging, clothing, furniture, emergency transportation, counseling, emergency prescriptions, camping opportunities and adult and youth activities. Captain VanMeter states: "The Army traditionally faces a "financial crunch" this time of year and it's imperative we have a successful auction to continue providing services to the less fortunate of our community." He invites the public to come out for refreshments and wonderful bargains at the auction.

This year, the auction committee, chaired by board members, Dan McNabb, Florence Troyer and Chuck Repenn, is excited to announce a new Antique and Collectible Corner has been added to the auction. Some of the antiques already donated include a primitive scythe, never used crystal from the 1930's, antique lanterns, a 1930 art deco headboard, several kerosene lamps, vases, depression glass pieces, Fenton glass, miscellaneous crystal pieces, hand painted china, carnival glass and other pieces.

Also new this year, will be a section of original art pieces by local artists. Some of the artists include, David Langley, Connie Kassel, Neil Kienitz and Patty Mershon.

Some of the most popular items at the auction will include five good used cars donated by Hirsch Ford; Harbor Chevrolet; Chrysler-Plymouth; Hyundai City Motors and Pine Mitsubishi - Kia.

The auction will also include sports items from college and professional teams, including University of Notre Dame, Indiana University, Indianapolis Colts, Indiana Pacers, Chicago White Sox and Dallas Cowboys.

Other items include, but are not limited to: a beautiful cocktail ring donated by Ericksons Jeweler, fresh produce, landscaping items, restaurant certificates, therapeutic massages, beauty shops, auto repair stores and retail stores.

Also included are furniture items, lamps, new clothing and a giant Beanie Baby named "Peace", who was donated by Pat's Gift Shop. Other items are wall hangings, silk flower arrangements, throws, vacuum cleaner, bird feeders, dishes, magazine rack, sandwich maker, computer equipment, items from Lennox, small appliances, jewelry, season ticket from Main Street Theater, complimentary ticket from Foot Light Theater and many other new items.

Some of the certificates available are from: Dairy Queen, Bob Evans, First Travel, Albano's Villa Pizza, Domino's Pizza, South Shore Railroad, Red Lobster, Flip's Cascade Mountain, Action Car Wash, Hacienda, Whittaker House, P & J's Golf, Massage Therapy & Wellness Center, Greene's Standard Station, Hair Werk's, Michigan City Golf Course, Walmart, Jewel, Osco, Thompson's Barber Shop, Holiday Inn, Hutchinson Manor and others. More certificates are being received each day.
