Bell Ringers

November 19 to December 24 everyday but Sunday

Who are Bell Ringers and WHAT do they do ?

Bell Ringers are people who share their time and energy to assist The Salvation Army with its Christmas fund-raising program. They stand at The Salvation Army Kettle, ring the bell and invite those who pass to contribute.

The Salvation Army "Tree of Lights" Program, was originated in St. Louis, MO by Major Olin Brigman and developed by KMOX radio stations in 1947. This program is used throughout the United States.

Bell Ringers are recruited from all walks of life and from many different sources. They may come from Service Clubs, Corporations, Church Groups, Families, or really just about anywhere. A leader should be selected to arrange for date and location, they also should be responsible for the groups schedule. We would like volunteers or volunteer groups to sign up for a minimum two hour shift. There are numerous sites and hours are Monday thru Saturday 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM.

While you are ringing a sign identifying your club or group will be placed at the kettle. Each year there is a friendly competition between volunteer groups with an award ceremony in the spring.

The Salvation Army will provide all equipment necessary for you to participate in this Christmas tradition.

"Gift of Warmth"

Delivery/Visitation Program

Saturday December 4
1:00 p.m until 5:00 p.m.

Visit homebound individuals and deliver gifts of warmth and cheer. This is a wonderful opportunity for individuals, families and groups to participate in making the holiday season a less lonesome time for people in our community. We will be having a welcome & orientation at The Salvation Army Divisional Headquarters (you will be notified as to when) soon. At that time, you will receive individual names of those to be visited in the geographic area you have chosen. Also this year, we will be distributing a special "Care Package" which has been put together by community volunteers.

Canteen Feeding Program

Hot Meal Delivery

Thanksgiving Weekend
Week between Christmas & New Year

The Salvation Army Canteen is a mobile unit which provides hot food for our less fortunate neighbors in the Grand Rapids area. Volunteers are needed for 2 hour shifts to help distribute food to the homeless, hungry & children not receiving a hot meal at school during this holiday season.
