The Salvation Army Day Reporting Center is an economic alternative to incarceration that serves as an intermediate sanction for eligible offenders. The program is a blend of intensive supervision and delivery of social/treatment services needed by the offenders.

The Day Reporting Center opened November 1, 1995. The mission of the Day Reporting Center is to help participants maintain a crime free, drug free lifestyle and become responsible contributing members of society.

The Day Reporting Center serves men and women age 17 and older. Participants accepted into the program are pretrial status, sentenced offenders, offenders at risk for probation violation, and offenders who have completed One Way House, Jellema House, or Alternative Directions. The average length of stay in the Day Reporting Centers is ninety days.

Persons referred to the Day Reporting Center receive a thorough assessment to determine special needs in the areas of employment, education, substance abuse, housing, spiritual development and family. Participants needing assistance in these areas are provided services on site by Day Reporting Center staff, or referred to other area agencies as appropriate.

A correctional plan is devised in cooperation with the participant, the referring agent, and the Day Reporting Center staff to address the needs of the participant as identified in the assessment. Day Reporting Center staff also monitors each individual participant for compliance with sentencing and probation recommendations.

Day Reporting Center participants are required to report to the program on a pre-scheduled basis. Participants will spend as little as fifteen minutes or as long as four hours at the Center based on individual need. When a person first enters the program they may spend as much as four hours on site; but as they progress, the number of hours and days spent at the Center gradually declines. Participants are also monitored by telephone when not on site.

The Day Reporting Center works closely with referral agents within the court system by being available for consultation and court appearances. Reports are sent to referring agents each month, or more often if requested. Agents are given early notification if a client is not complying with program requirements.

The Day Reporting Center is a part of the correctional continuum of prison - jail - residential - supervision programming in Kent County.
